A woman was charged Tuesday after a Randolph County town marshal was killed during a police chase in July.
34-year-old Maci Atkinson of Winchester, was charged Sept. 8 with the following counts, according to online court records:
- Murder
- Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, causing death or catastrophic injury to a first responder
- Attempted aggravated battery creating a substantial risk of death
- Causing death while operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body
- Resisting law enforcement while using or displaying a weapon
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
- Auto theft
- Unlawful possession of a syringe
Lynn Town Marshal Brad Fisher was killed July 29, 2026, while putting out stop sticks at U.S. 36 and U.S. 27, near the town of Lynn.
Police say Atkinson, who was driving a stolen van, was wanted on several drug-related warrants.
