Two people were injured and one person was charged Sunday evening in western Darke County after a large vehicle strikes a group of people. Around 7:45 PM Sunday, Darke County Deputies along with Union City Police Department, Greenville Rescue, Union City Fire and Rescue were dispatched to 868 Wasson Road (Union City Country Club) where a UTV struck several pedestrians.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Uforce side-by-side, driven by 64-year-old Carolyn Stewart of Union City, Indiana was parked in the grass area on the east side of the clubhouse. Stewart attempted to back the side-by-side up when she struck two elderly pedestrians, 77-year-old Thomas Brewer and 69-year-old Tonya Puccini both from Union City, Indiana.
Brewer was transported to Wayne Healthcare where he was treated and released. Puccini was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Miami Valleys MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) where her condition is unknown at this time. Both CareFlight and MedFlight were called to the scene however, unable to fly due to weather conditions.
Stewart was arrested on charges of Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Operating a Vehicle Impaired. Stewart was transported to the Darke County jail.
