Greenville, Ohio — On July 8, 2026, Americans across all 50 States, the District of
Columbia, the five U.S. Territories, and the U.S. Minor Outlying Islands will unite in a
simultaneous public reading of the Declaration of Independence, marking the 250th
anniversary of its first public reading on July 8, 1776.
Darke County will proudly participate in this historic national commemoration with a
community event held at the Darke County Courthouse. The program will begin at 5:50
p.m., followed by the nationwide reading at 6:00 p.m. sharp. The event is free and open
to the public.
Scott Zumbrink, Darke County Treasurer, will open the ceremony by leading the Pledge
of Allegiance and commentary.
