A young Darke County child has died, a few days about being struck by a car in the driveway at home. On Sunday, August 23rd, just before 3:05 pm, Darke County Deputies, along with Arcanum Fire Department, Arcanum Rescue, and Care Flight responded to the 200 block of State Route 503 for a 2-year-old boy that had been struck by a vehicle in the private drive of the residence.
Preliminary investigation revealed the 2-year-old was believed to be inside the residence at the time of the incident. The mother of the 2-year-old was in a 2020 Chevrolet 2500 truck. The mother began moving the truck and was unaware the 2-year-old boy had run out of the home. The 2-year-old was struck by the truck.
Deputies and EMS provided life saving measures on the child on scene prior to the child being transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital. The child later died due to his injuries while at the hospital.
