Press Release
Union City Area Wastewater Facilities Responding to Historic Rainfall.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City and Village of Union City would like to provide an update regarding the ongoing effects of the significant rainfall that has impacted our community over the past 7 to 10 days.
The greater Union City area has experienced an extraordinary amount of precipitation during this period. While our community has weathered these conditions as well as could be expected under the circumstances, we are currently managing flooding conditions at two wastewater treatment facilities.
Public works and utility personnel have been working around the clock to mitigate the impacts of this event and maintain wastewater operations. As required by state law, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) have been formally notified of the situation.
Crews are actively processing excess wastewater and implementing response measures designed to return the facilities to normal operation as quickly and safely as conditions allow. Efforts will continue until all overflows have ceased and the system is fully stabilized.
Residents who observe standing water on their property and believe it may contain sewage are encouraged to contact the appropriate City or Village office. Response crews will investigate reported concerns and address them as soon as practicable, prioritizing situations that pose the greatest potential risk to public health and safety.
We appreciate the patience, understanding, and cooperation of our residents during this challenging weather event. Updates will be provided as conditions change and additional information becomes available.
For questions or to report potential sewage-related concerns, please contact your local City or Village office.
The City and Village of Union City extend their sincere thanks to the utility, public works, and emergency response personnel who continue to work tirelessly to protect public health and critical infrastructure throughout this event.
