A DARKE COUNTY MAN IS FACING A PRELIMINARY MURDER CHARGE – IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A WOMAN ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF GREENVILLE THURSDAY EVENING. ACCORDING TO GREENVILLE POLICE CHIEF RYAN BENGE – AROUND 8:30PM THURSDAY – OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO 700 BLOCK OF MARTIN STREET ON THE REPORT OF A WOMAN BEING SHOT. GREENVILLE TOWNSHIP RESCUE, THE CITY OF GREENVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND CAREFLIGHT – RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AS WELL. WHEN GREENVILLE POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE – THEY DISCOVERED THE VICTIM, 34-YEAR-OLD BRIANNE OXLEY OF GREENVILLE, HAD SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND. THE SUSPECT, 25-YEAR-OLD ZACHERY GILBERT, FLED THE AREA BEFORE OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE HOME. MEMBERS OF THE DARKE COUNTY SHERFF’S OFFICE, THE OHIO HIGHWAY PATROL, WERE REQUESTED TO ASSIST IN THE SEARCH FOR GILBERT. A PERIMETER WAS ESTABLISHED IN THE AREA OF THE SHOOTING, TO HELP LOCATE THE SUSPECT. JUST AFTER 9:15PM, WHILE RECEIVING C-P-R, BRIANNE OXLEY WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. JUST BEFORE 10:30PM THURSDAY, THE SUSPECT ZACHERY GILBERT, WAS LOCATED AND ARRESTED SEVERAL BLOCKS NORTH OF WHERE THE SHOOTING OCCURRED. GILBERT IS BEING HELD IN THE DARKE COUNTY JAIL, ON A PRELIMINARY CHARGE OF MURDER. GREENVILLE POLICE CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THIS SHOOTING, AND THE CASE WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE DARKE COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE FOR REVIEW.
